PowerSchool SIS is the primary source of student and staff information for our districts. Securing these vast amounts of personally identifiable information (PII) pertaining to students, staff, and parents is of utmost importance. Finding the proper balance between providing access to information to school staff who need information to do their jobs and keeping the SIS locked down and secure can be difficult. These two security training sessions are designed for both districts that are new to PowerSchool and for those who are experienced. It is highly recommended to attend both training sessions, but it is not required.
PowerSchool Security Training Part 1 will cover the basics of setting up PowerSchool SIS security. It will cover the first two security components of PowerSchool Security: Groups and Page Permissions. In addition, it will review password rules management and other miscellaneous security settings that are often overlooked. No matter how long your district has had PowerSchool, Part 1 will provide attendees with a roadmap for doing a proper cybersecurity audit of your PowerSchool user security settings.
Main topics of Part 1:
Security Best Practices
Groups Management
Assigning staff to groups
Properly deactivating staff
Modifying Page Permissions
Password Policy Management
State & System Reports Security
Miscellaneous Security Settings
